Yes, here we go again! Another storm is coming and threatening to soak the state! With the forecast calling for rain later in the day, Yorrick and I headed to the park. After we had been stuck in the house for many days over the last couple storms, we were going now!
We walked down the street towards the park when from the opposite direction from which we were heading, came a sound. The sound was an odd sound that started off soft and slowly grew to a much louder noise. We couldn't see where the noise was coming from but only that is was coming from the direction we came. So we both stood there just waiting for something to come into view. Something that was making the noise that was even louder than before. And there is was, coming over the hill. Followed by another and then another. 3 fire trucks all lined up riding down the street towards us. Both Yorrick and I could do nothing but stand there and watch. They, one by one, drove passed us and down the street. Yorrick started to run after them as if he was a dog. I had no choice but to run after him. Eventually the fire trucks turned a corner and drove out of view. We could still hear them from where we were, until the sirens suddenly stopped. Yorrick kept running after where he thought the noise was coming from , but stopped when he couldn't figure out where it was any longer. Once I caught up with him, I picked him up and told him we should continue to the park before it begins to rain.
So we continued on to the park. We had completely ran passed the road the park was on, so we had to backtrack a little. Once we got to the park, to our surprise, they changed some things. They still had the swings, the see saw, and the monkey bars. What was new was the big red fire truck. After seeing the fire trucks fly by, Yorrick was quick to jump into the fire truck and actually spent most of him time there. I had the hardest time getting him out of it, so I joined him. I pretended we were on the way to a fire to save an elderly lady and her cat. We waved at fellow children as we drove to the fire. I blared the siren as the fire trucks that passed us did, and then when we got there, it started to rain! Yes, it started to rain.
Now we could have started home, but we actually stayed and used it to our advantage. We turned the hose on and began to put out the fire. We can't leave now! We have to put out a fire. So we fought the fire, when we heard the screams from the elderly lady. I jumped out of the truck and raised the ladder to a window. I climbed the ladder to that window and called the lady to come to me. She crawled on the floor like she knew to and grabbed hold of my hand. I held her tightly as we climbed down the ladder together. She then yelled out claiming her cat was still in the house. No sooner did she finish telling me, the cat jumped out of the window and climbed down the ladder. The day was saved. Yorrick had almost put out the fire when I made it all the way down the ladder. I joined him in finishing putting out the fire, when it started to rain much harder. I looked at Yorrick and we both agreed that maybe it was time to leave. We wished we could have stayed much longer and put the fire out completely, but neither one of us wanted to get soaked on the way home.
So back home we ran, back to the main road. Passed where we stood watching the fire trucks pass to our front porch. We sat on the porch for a few minutes and caught our breathe. Just as we were going to head inside, all 3 fire trucks were driving passed our house in the direction they originally came. As we watched them drive by, I waved hoping they would wave back and they did. I looked at Yorrick and told him that maybe sometime soon, we will head to the fire department and look at those fire trucks. He looked excited jumping up and down, wagging his tail the whole time. Unfortunately the excitement quickly went away as it began to rain harder. So we went inside and sat by the window watching the rain continue to come down. I really hope it stops raining sooner than the weather man said. I don't know how much more of this rain we can take.
