Well, after living in New Hampshire for almost 10 years, I had realized that we had never once stepped in the state house of this state's capital. I had walked by it many times thinking that one of these days, we will visit the building and check it out, but I seemed to just pushed it off. Finally that day came.First we road the bus just to get to the building. It was quite a far walk from where we parked. We couldn't find a parking spot anywhere close to the state house. So yet another first, we hopped onto the bus and headed towards the building. When the bus arrived, we thanked the driver and went on our way. The sky was so clear. I don't remember seeing a single cloud in the sky. We stood in front of the state house for some pictures and then headed in. As you walk inside, you are greeted by the the hall of flags. There were 107 flags that dated as far back as 1819. I couldn't believe the history that surrounded us. As we continued walking through the building, we noticed all the paintings that we hanging on the walls. These paintings consisted of notable men and women from 300 years of New Hampshire's history.
I had not heard of most of these people until we reached the Governor's Reception Room on the second floor. There, they had pictures of the most resent governors of the state. I had take a picture while in the room but the women at the desk didn't want to be a part of it. In the second floor hallways, you could view more pictures of people you probably don't know, as well as on the third floor too. The third floor did hold some cool features. First, there is the Secretary of State's Office. This is where candidates for New Hampshire's First in the Nation Primary must come to register. With out doing so, you will not be allowed to have your name on the ballot during an election year. The other cool thing about this floor, you can watch Representatives Hall. Representatives from all over the state sit in this hall and duke it out with others over ideas they feel are best for the state. Sometimes things work out and sometimes they don't. When we got there, they were talking about something I hadn't ever heard about. So I kept quiet and listened for around 10 minutes before leaving. Yorrick was getting a little restless. So we left the building and walked around on Main Street for a little while and soon enough, we ended back at the car. I really liked the state house and the story it told of New Hampshire's history. Now maybe sometime, I will visit the museum across the street. But that's another day!
