Logbook Entry : 00040
March 1st, 2010
Thursday night, shortly after I fell asleep, a big storm hit. This storm strolled into town uninvited and trashed the town. Rain, snow, and winds that reached 68 mph, were knocking down trees, power lines, and damaging houses. It was right away, but I did end up waking up when something hit my window. At this point, the power was still on, but within 20 minutes of waking up, the power did go out. So I headed to the living room and sat in my chair in front of the big bay window. Flashes of light in the sky, winds blowing trees left and right. I can't begin to tell you how scary it was to see those trees bend as they did, but I continued to watch. I couldn't move away from the window no matter how scared I got. Eventually I started to fall asleep again and headed off to bed. Somehow I managed to sleep for the rest of the night.
When I woke, the power had come back on. The clock in my bedroom was blinking so I had no idea what time it was. I went to the living room to find out the time and looked out the window to find that the road was cluttered with branches and twigs. From what I can see, there was no sign of any large trees lying across the road.
It took me a few days to head outside. I wanted things to clear a bit before heading out. So today I ventured outside. Now if we all remember the last time I went outside and helped move branches. I broke my collar bone. So I didn't go outside to help much. I did pick up small twigs that might cause a problem if someone was to run over them with the a car. As I did this, Yorrick followed. We eventually ended up by the river as we usually do, but this time we decided to walk the trails to see if there was any damage there. We found around a half dozen trees down, all of which were rather health. It saddened me tremendously to see these beautiful trees fallen down. It is these trees that make our walks through the woods very enjoyable. But, with that said, to see only a small number of trees down, I think the forest was relatively untouched. After our walk through the woods, Yorrick and I headed home to find the power back out. It did return 10 minutes after we got back home. We survived the "snowicane" as everyone started calling it, but not everyone was so lucky. From what I hear, there still are lots of people without power. Hopefully they get it back real soon.
