Cleaning Up After the Storm

Logbook Entry : 00032
January 10th, 2010

So this year is starting out to be a real downer. The day the power came back on, I headed outside to help some of my neighbors clean up some of the branches in the road and in yards. In the process of doing so, a tree branch fell from a tree and hit me, knocking me to the ground. Everyone came over to where I was and tried to help me up but I was in such pain, it seemed like a really bad idea to even move me.

One of my neighbors went inside his house and called 911. About 10 minutes later, and ambulance showed up and I was off to the hospital. It was a rather short ride, 15 minutes or so. When we got there, there were nurses and doctors waiting for me and they did lots of checks on me before sending me upstairs for x-rays. It was shortly there after that the doctor told me I had broken my collar bone. I had to go in for surgery.

It wasn't until the next morning that I was going in for surgery. Out cold for about an hour. When I woke up, my collar bone was so sore from all the work the doctors did. I called for a nurse and she gave me some pain killer. I also asked for a ice pop but they were out. I betcha if I had my tonsils out, they would be able to find one! I asked for a computer so I could write an entry in my logbook, but they couldn't give me on of those either. It wasn't until the day after my surgery that I was able to go home and write in logbook.

So now I am home sitting in front of my computer wondering what else will happen. I have been ordered to light duty around the house and I have to go back in a month for them to check to see how things are going. But as I sit here writing, I look over to the floor next to my computer desk. A package sits with my name on it. It was from my mother. For those that might not remember, she past in September of 08. I never wanted to open it, but now I find myself staring at it, wondering what she had gotten me. I think she would have wanted me to open it. I don't know if I should though.
